Disaster-Related Delays

Emergencies can disrupt the normal deposit schedule. Office closures or power outages after events like storms and fires can cause delays. Staff may need to prioritize processing federally approved replacement benefits for disaster victims before handling regular monthly issuances.

Benefit Theft Or Fraud Investigations

If your benefits were stolen through skimming or phishing, the replacement funds may arrive later than your usual deposit date. Similarly, program integrity reviews for suspected fraud or overpayment can automatically freeze a case, pausing benefits until the investigation is complete.

Do EBT Benefits Expire or Roll Over?

Funds remain available for 274 days from their deposit date. Any purchase or withdrawal resets this nine-month clock for the entire balance. If an account is inactive for 274 days, the oldest benefits are expunged and cannot be replaced, as detailed in state regulations.

Beyond the inactivity rule, each monthly deposit also has a one-year lifespan. Once a specific allotment reaches its 12-month anniversary, it is permanently removed from the card, even if the account has been used recently.

Apply for Expedited SNAP

If you realize your balance is gone, you can apply for expedited SNAP, sometimes called “emergency EBT.” A successful request can add new food dollars to your card in as little as 24 hours.

Check if you qualify: Oregon’s fast-track rules cover households with less than $150 in gross monthly income and under $100 in liquid resources. You may also qualify if your rent and utilities exceed your remaining income.
Gather proof like an ID, recent pay stub, or current lease and contact ODHS the same day. You can call 1-800-699-9075, use the ONE portal, or visit a Self-Sufficiency office for an on-the-spot interview.

Report a Change in Circumstances

If your income has dropped, your bills have gone up, or your household size has changed, report it immediately. ODHS may recalculate your benefits and increase your next month’s amount without waiting for your regular renewal.

Collect documents showing the change, such as a new rent receipt, childcare invoice, notice of cut hours, or medical bills for a senior or disabled household member.

Enter your ZIP code on the Oregon Food Bank’s “Find Food” page. Their map shows over 1,400 pantries and drop-sites, which rarely require ID or proof of income.
If you can’t get online, text your ZIP code to 898-211. The 211info database also lists community fridges, senior lunch cafés, and school-district dinner routes statewide.
