Follow the automated prompts to get to “Benefit Account Information.”
Enter your 16-digit EBT card number and your current 4-digit PIN when prompted.
The system will read your available SNAP and EBT Cash balances and the date of your last deposit.

2. With the Benny App

Using the Benny app on your smartphone provides immediate access to your account details.

Download Benny from the App Store or Google Play and create a free account with your phone number or email address.
Enter your ZIP code.
Tap “Add Card,” choose “Alabama,” and enter your 16-digit EBT card number to sync your account.

Once linked, the app’s home screen will always show your current SNAP and EBT Cash totals along with your most recent deposits.

3. Online Through the Cardholder Website

Accessing your account through the official Alabama EBT – ConnectEBT website lets you view your transaction history and current funds.

If you are a first-time user:

Go to the website and click “Create User Account.”
Enter your Social Security number, date of birth, and card number.
Create a new user ID and password for your account.

Returning users can simply enter their user ID and password to log in. The account dashboard displays today’s SNAP and EBT Cash amounts at the top. You can also use the “Transaction History” link to review past purchases and withdrawals.

4. On Your Last Store Receipt

Looking at your most recent store receipt is a quick way to see your remaining funds after a purchase.

After any EBT transaction, the bottom of the printed receipt will list your remaining SNAP food balance and your EBT Cash balance, if applicable.

5. At an ATM

Making a balance inquiry at an ATM can show you your EBT Cash funds, though not all machines display SNAP information.

Insert your EBT card into an ATM that shows the Quest® or Cirrus® logo.
Enter your PIN and choose the “Balance Inquiry” option.
Select “Checking” to view your funds.

Inquiries are typically surcharge-free at ATMs in the MoneyPass and Allpoint networks. You can find a nearby no-fee machine using an Allpoint Locator. If the ATM does not show a fee warning on the screen, the inquiry is free.

Some ATMs can only show your EBT Cash total. If the machine displays only one figure, you can check your SNAP food balance at a grocery store checkout or by using the Benny app.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

Phishing and spam attacks targeting Alabama EBT users are becoming more common and sophisticated. Knowing the various forms this fraud can take is the best way to recognize a threat and protect your benefits on time.

How EBT Benefits Are Stolen

Thieves use several methods to steal benefits. Many losses happen through physical devices like skimmers, shimmers, or hidden readers placed on payment terminals that copy your card details. Scammers also use phishing tactics, sending fake texts, emails, or calls to trick you into giving up your card number and PIN.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

If you suspect fraud, you must act immediately to secure your account.

Change your card PIN right away.
Report the theft to your county DHR office.

A past federal program allowed Alabama to replace benefits stolen due to skimming or phishing, but it expired in September 2024. The state is no longer replacing stolen benefits, so proactive security is the only protection available.

Other Common Issues with EBT Cards and How to Resolve Them

Beyond security threats, you might encounter other common problems with your EBT card. Here’s how to resolve them and maintain access to your food assistance benefits.

Forgotten or Locked PIN

Entering an incorrect PIN three times in a row will automatically lock your card for security purposes. You might also simply forget the number you chose.

Use the ConnectEBT website or mobile app to choose a new PIN. You will need your card number, the last four digits of the head of household’s SSN, and their date of birth.
If you don’t have internet access, call Alabama EBT Customer Service at 1-800-997-8888 and follow the prompts to reset your PIN.
After setting a new PIN, wait about 30 minutes before trying to use your card again.

Damaged or Unreadable Card

Exposure to heat, bending, or scratches can damage the magnetic stripe on your EBT card. This can cause a “Card Read Error” message at payment terminals.

If your card won’t swipe at a different terminal, request a replacement through the ConnectEBT app or website. You can also call 1-800-997-8888 to request one.
A new card should arrive by mail within 5–7 business days.
While you wait, most store cashiers can manually key-enter your card number and PIN to complete eligible purchases.

Declined Transaction With a Sufficient Balance

Sometimes a transaction is declined even when you know you have funds. This often happens if you try to buy items that are not eligible for SNAP, such as hot foods or paper products.

Another common reason is a security setting. Your card may be set to “Lock Card Everywhere” or “Lock Card Outside Alabama” within the ConnectEBT app.

First, confirm your current balance. You can check it on the ConnectEBT app, by downloading the Benny app, by calling the number on your card, or by looking at a receipt from a recent purchase.
If your card is locked, go into the ConnectEBT app and change the lock setting before you try swiping again.
Ask the cashier to ring up your food and non-food items separately. You can then pay for the non-food items with another payment method.
