  • Carefully re-enter your PIN. Entering the wrong PIN three times will lock your card for 24 hours.

  • Ask the cashier to try a different register, as the issue could be a temporary network problem.

  • Ensure the store is authorized to accept SNAP and that all your items are eligible for purchase with EBT benefits.

  • If the card is visibly worn or damaged and fails at multiple stores, call customer service to request a free replacement.

Suspicious Or Unauthorized Transactions

If you notice transactions you did not make, you must take immediate steps to secure your account and report the fraud.

  • Immediately lock your card through the Georgia EBT or Gateway app. You can also call 1-888-421-3281 to freeze the card and change your PIN.

  • Review your transaction history and write down the date, amount, and location of every unauthorized charge.

  • Report the theft to the DHS Office of Inspector General at 877-423-4746. Depending on the situation, you may also need to file a police report.

  • If the fraud falls within the federal guidelines, you can submit a form to request a replacement of stolen benefits. This is part of the federal stolen SNAP replacement program.
