Your EBT card provides access to benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and EBT Cash programs like Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). Effectively managing your balance helps with budgeting and prevents running short on funds, whether you receive one or both types of benefits.

This guide explains the different ways to check your EBT balance in Nebraska, from using a mobile app to calling customer service.

How to Check Your EBT Balance in Nebraska

You can check your Nebraska EBT funds in several ways. These include logging into an online portal, using a mobile app, calling a toll-free number, looking at your last grocery receipt, or visiting an ATM. Each method gives you direct access to your current SNAP and EBT Cash information, helping you keep track of your available benefits.

1. Online via ebtEDGE

Accessing your account information through the ebtEDGE cardholder portal provides real-time details on your SNAP and TANF balances.

  1. Go to ebtEDGE and choose “Cardholder Login.”

  2. If you are a first-time user, click “Register” and provide your 16-digit EBT number to set up a user ID and password.

  3. After signing in, click “Benefits” on the dashboard to see your current balances and the last ten transactions.

You can also reach this portal by logging into your ACCESSNebraska account and selecting the EBT account link from the “My Benefits Dashboard.”

2. Using the Benny Mobile App

Using the free Benny app on your smartphone is another way to see your EBT information.

  1. Download and install Benny from the App Store or Google Play.

  2. Open the app, create a profile, and choose to link your EBT card.

  3. Enter your Nebraska EBT card number and ZIP code to sync your account. Your home screen will then display your SNAP and EBT Cash balances.

The app also allows you to earn automatic cashback on eligible EBT purchases from participating retailers like Walmart, Costco, and Trader Joe’s.

3. Calling the 24-Hour Toll-Free Phone Line

Getting your balance over the phone is possible by calling the automated Nebraska EBT customer service line.

  1. Dial 877-247-6328.

  2. Enter your 16-digit card number followed by your four-digit PIN.

  3. The automated system will announce your current SNAP and EBT Cash balances. You can follow the prompts to repeat the information or hear recent transactions.

To speak with an ACCESSNebraska agent, press “0” during business hours (8 a.m.–5 p.m. CT). Interpreter assistance is available for many languages, and you can find more information in the “How to Reach Us” section of the ACCESSNebraska website.

4. Reviewing Your Printed Grocery Receipt

Looking at your most recent store receipt offers an offline way to track your funds. After you make a purchase with your EBT card, the printed receipt will show your updated SNAP and/or EBT Cash balance near the bottom. The amounts listed under “SNAP Bal:” and “CASH Bal:” are updated immediately.

5. Making an ATM Balance Inquiry

Using an ATM is an option for checking your EBT Cash funds.

  1. Insert your Nebraska EBT card at an ATM that displays the Quest or Plus logo.

  2. Choose the “Balance Inquiry” option, select “Checking,” and enter your PIN. The screen will show your remaining EBT Cash amount.

Note that SNAP benefits cannot be withdrawn as cash from an ATM. Only TANF/ADC funds are available for withdrawal.

To avoid fees, use a surcharge-free ATM. You can find one using the Allpoint ATM locator.

Some ATMs may not display your SNAP balance. If an ATM only shows your EBT Cash funds, you can check your SNAP balance online or with the Benny app.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

With a rise in phishing and spam attacks across Nebraska, EBT users are increasingly targeted by sophisticated scams. Knowing the different forms these scams can take helps you protect your benefits before they are compromised.

How EBT Benefits Can Be Stolen

Thieves use several methods to steal benefits. A common hardware attack involves card skimmers attached to keypads that copy your card data and PIN. You might also receive fake text messages or phone calls claiming your account is locked to trick you into revealing your card number. Other scams include fake websites that mimic official portals and social media posts promising extra food credits for a small fee.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

If your SNAP benefits were stolen electronically after October 1, 2022, you may get them replaced. You must take the following steps:

  1. Report the theft within 30 days by calling 1-877-247-6328.

  2. Get a new card and change your PIN.

Other Common Issues with EBT Cards and How to Resolve Them

Beyond security threats, other common card problems can disrupt your access to benefits. Here’s how to handle missing benefits, a locked card, or a damaged one without delay.

My Monthly Benefits Didn’t Show Up

Many cardholders expect their benefits to load after midnight on their issue date, but sometimes find a zero balance instead. This can happen if your case is pending because a Six-Month Review or annual recertification is incomplete.

An unreported change in income, address, or household size can also cause a temporary suspension. In other cases, a late recertification may have moved your benefit date.

  • Log into the ACCESSNebraska portal to check for alerts or notices and complete any required reviews or uploads.

  • For phone assistance, call Economic Assistance at 800-383-4278 or visit a local DHHS office.

  • Benefits are typically loaded within one business day after the required paperwork is processed.

My Card Is Locked After Too Many PIN Tries

Entering the wrong PIN four times in a row triggers a security lock on your account. While your funds remain safe, the card will be rejected by all retailers and ATMs until it is reset.

  • Wait until after midnight Central Time, as the lock often clears automatically.

  • If you need immediate access, call Nebraska EBT Customer Service at 800-383-4278. You will need to verify your identity to pick a new four-digit PIN.

  • Going forward, choose a PIN that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.

My Card Is Damaged, Lost, or Demagnetized

Physical wear and tear can make an EBT card unusable. Excessive heat, bending, or friction from a wallet can damage the magnetic stripe, and sometimes older store terminals cannot read a worn chip.

  • Call Nebraska EBT Customer Service at 800-383-4278 to request a replacement. The old card will be canceled immediately.

  • A new card typically arrives in five to seven days. You can also ask to pick one up at a local DHHS office for faster service.

  • While you wait, you can check your balance by downloading the Benny app, but you cannot spend benefits until the new card is activated.
