Calling the automated customer service line is a quick way to hear your balances over the phone.

Dial 1-888-328-9271 (TTY 711). This line is available 24 hours a day.
Press 1 for English or follow the prompts for another language. Support is available in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, and Chinese, with a full list on the state’s Language Access page.
Enter your 16-digit card number and four-digit PIN when prompted.
The automated system will immediately read your Food and EBT Cash balances.

4. Checking Your Last Receipt

Looking at your most recent store receipt is a simple way to find your remaining funds without needing a phone or internet connection.

Your remaining Food and EBT Cash balances are printed near the bottom of any recent store or ATM receipt.

5. At An ATM

Using an ATM allows you to check your EBT Cash balance, but it will not show your SNAP funds.

Insert or swipe your card and enter your PIN.
Choose “Balance” or “Withdraw Cash,” then select “Checking.”
The screen will display your available EBT Cash amount before you complete any transaction.

Fees may apply at some locations. To find machines without a surcharge, use an ATM locator to find ATMs with the Quest, MoneyPass, or Allpoint logos.

Since ATMs only show your EBT Cash funds, you can check your SNAP balance online or with the Benny app.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

With phishing and spam attacks rising in Washington, it is important to recognize the tactics thieves use. Understanding these methods allows you to take the right steps to protect your benefits before they are compromised.

How EBT Benefits Are Stolen

Thieves use physical and digital tactics to steal benefits. Card skimmers on payment terminals can capture your card and PIN. Phishing is also common, using fake texts, emails, or calls that appear official to trick you into sharing private details. Social media scams also offer cash for SNAP benefits.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

Washington may replace benefits stolen via fraud. This program covers food benefits stolen after Oct. 1, 2022, and cash benefits after July 1, 2024, but it ends on Dec. 20, 2024. If you are a victim:

Report the theft within 30 days by calling 855-873-0642 or filing a claim form from the official DSHS site.
Replacements are limited to twice per year and cannot exceed two months of benefits.

Other Common Issues with EBT Cards and How to Resolve Them

Beyond security threats, you might face other common card problems. Knowing how to handle a locked PIN, a damaged card, or a missing deposit can help you access your benefits without delay.

Your PIN Gets Locked

Entering the wrong PIN several times can trigger a temporary lockout. The system may also flag what it considers unusual activity, locking the card as a precaution.

Wait until after midnight, as many lockouts resolve automatically.
If the card is still locked, call the 24-hour EBT customer service line at 888-328-9271 to verify your identity and choose a new PIN.
You can also reset your PIN through the ebtEDGE cardholder portal or its mobile app.

The Card Is Damaged or Won’t Read

The magnetic stripe or chip on your EBT card can get damaged from normal wear and tear, heat, or bending. This can cause it to be declined at store terminals.

Freeze your card in the ebtEDGE app to prevent unauthorized use, then order a replacement through the app or by phone.
For immediate replacement, visit a local DSHS Community Services Office with a photo ID and your DSHS client number to have a new card printed on-site.
A mailed replacement card typically arrives in 3-5 business days. Your benefits will transfer automatically, and you will set a new PIN upon arrival.

Benefits Don’t Appear on Schedule

Washington’s Basic Food benefits are deposited by 6 a.m. PT on a set day each month, regardless of holidays or weekends. If your balance seems incorrect, you might have checked too early or forgotten your specific issuance date.

A delay can also happen if required paperwork, like a Mid-Certification Review (MCR), was submitted late, which can pause your case.

Check if the deposit has arrived by calling 888-328-9271 or using an app like Benny to see your real-time EBT balance. The ebtEDGE portal also shows your transaction history.
Confirm your exact monthly deposit date by checking the “Benefits Schedule” tab in the ebtEDGE app.
If an MCR is overdue, submit the form through Washington Connection or call the DSHS Customer Service Center at 877-501-2233 to have a worker reopen the case.
