Download “Benny – EBT Balance” from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Open the app, tap “Add Card,” and enter your 16-digit New Hampshire EBT card number and the ZIP code associated with your case to link your card.
Your food and cash balances refresh automatically. You can tap a benefit to see the dollar amount, deposit schedule, and recent transactions.

The app also provides cashback on EBT purchases at popular retailers like Costco, Walmart, Walgreens, and Trader Joe’s.

3. Call Customer Service

Calling the automated phone line is another quick way to get your account information.

Dial the 24-hour EBT Customer Service line at 888-997-9777. Choose English or follow the prompt for Spanish. An interpreter service is also available for other languages, with a full list on the DHHS Language-Access page.
Enter or speak your 16-digit card number when prompted. The automated system will state your SNAP and EBT Cash balances and recent transactions.
You can stay on the line or say “representative” to speak with a live agent for help with problems or to request a replacement card.

4. Look at Your Last Receipt

Checking your most recent store receipt is a simple way to confirm your remaining funds after a purchase.

After any EBT transaction, look near the bottom of your receipt. It will list your remaining SNAP and EBT Cash balances separately.
This information is available on receipts from any retailer that accepts the Quest EBT card.

5. Visit an ATM

Using an ATM allows you to check your EBT Cash funds and withdraw them if needed.

Insert your New Hampshire EBT card at an ATM that shows the Quest or Cirrus logo.
Enter your PIN, choose “Balance Inquiry,” and then select the “Checking” option.
The screen and a printed receipt will show your EBT Cash account balance. Most privately owned machines charge a fee, so you can find a surcharge-free ATM or call 888-997-9777 and ask the voice system for nearby free machines.

Note that ATMs can only show your EBT Cash balance, not your SNAP funds. To check your SNAP balance, you can check online or use the Benny app.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

With phishing and spam attacks on the rise in New Hampshire, EBT cardholders face new threats. Knowing the different forms these scams can take allows you to take the necessary steps to protect your benefits on time.

How Benefits Are Stolen

Thieves use wireless skimmers on card readers to steal data and hidden cameras to record PINs. They also use phishing texts, emails, and calls that imitate state agencies to trick you into sharing your card details. EBT processors will never ask for your card number or PIN by message or phone.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

New Hampshire may replace electronically stolen benefits for thefts occurring before December 21, 2024. To request a replacement, you must report the theft and submit a signed statement to the New Hampshire DHHS. Reimbursement is limited to two claims per year and does not cover losses from sharing your card. This program ends for thefts on or after December 21, 2024.

Other Common Issues with EBT Cards and How to Resolve Them

Beyond security threats, you might run into other problems with your EBT card. Knowing how to handle a lost card, a forgotten PIN, or a declined transaction can save you time.

Lost or Damaged Card

If you misplace your card or if the magnetic stripe gets worn out, you will not be able to access your SNAP or EBT Cash benefits. This requires immediate action to protect your funds.

Call the DHHS EBT Customer Service line at 1-888-997-9777 to deactivate your old card. A replacement usually arrives in 7–10 business days.
If you need a card sooner, visit a local DHHS District Office to ask for a same-day replacement.
While you wait, you can check your balance by downloading the Benny app or using the ebtEDGE website. Make sure your address is current so the new card is mailed to the right place.

Forgotten or Blocked PIN

Entering the wrong PIN three or more times will lock your card, preventing you from using it. Many people also simply forget their four-digit PIN.

Call 1-888-997-9777 and choose the PIN reset option. You will need to verify your identity with your date of birth, Social Security Number, and card number to create a new PIN.
You can also reset your PIN online through the ebtEDGE cardholder portal or its mobile app.
Once you have a new PIN, memorize it and then destroy any written copy. No one from a state agency or a retailer should ever ask for your PIN.

Card Declined at Checkout

A transaction might be declined if your balance is too low for the purchase or if some items in your cart are not eligible for SNAP benefits.

Check your balance before you shop by looking at your last receipt, calling the customer service line, or using the ebtEDGE portal or the Benny app.
If your balance is insufficient, you can remove some items or pay the remaining amount with another form of payment.
Remember that SNAP benefits do not cover hot, prepared foods or non-food household goods. If you are using EBT Cash for these items, it is best to run them as a separate transaction.
