2. Through the Benny App

Using the Benny app lets you view your real-time funds directly on your smartphone.

Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play and create an account.
Open the app, select “Add Card,” and enter your Wisconsin QUEST card number and ZIP code.
Tap the card icon anytime to see your current EBT balance, which refreshes automatically.

The app also provides cashback on eligible EBT purchases at participating stores, including Walmart, Costco, and Trader Joe's.

3. Online via ebtEDGE

Accessing your account information online is possible through the official ebtEDGE portal or its mobile app.

Visit the ebtEDGE website and click “Cardholder Login.”
Enter your 16-digit card number to proceed.
On your first visit, you will provide your PIN and set up security questions.
After logging in, you will land on the “Account Summary” page, which displays your FoodShare and EBT Cash balances. You can view past purchases by choosing “Transaction History.”

4. On a Store Receipt

Reviewing your last store receipt is a straightforward way to find your current balance after a purchase.

After an approved transaction at a grocery store or farmers market, keep the printed receipt.
Look at the bottom or back of the slip, where your remaining FoodShare and EBT Cash balance is automatically printed.
Use that number as a reference until your next transaction.

5. At an ATM

Checking your EBT Cash balance can be done at an ATM that accepts QUEST cards.

Find a surcharge-free ATM that displays the QUEST, MoneyPass, or SHAZAM logo.
Insert your QUEST card and enter your PIN.
Select “Balance Inquiry.” A withdrawal is not necessary.
The screen and printed receipt will show your EBT Cash balance.

Since ATMs do not show your FoodShare balance, you can check it online through the ebtEDGE portal or by using the Benny app.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

With phishing and spam attacks on the rise in Wisconsin, it is important to recognize the different forms these scams can take. Knowing the tactics thieves use allows you to take the right steps to protect your benefits on time.

How EBT Benefits Are Stolen

Thieves use several methods to steal benefits. These include phishing texts about locked cards, spoofed calls asking you to verify your card, and fake websites that mimic official portals to capture your card number and PIN. Hardware fraud is also a risk, with skimmers on store card readers stealing card data and hidden cameras recording your PIN entry.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

Wisconsin replaces FoodShare benefits stolen between October 1, 2022, and December 20, 2024, if a claim is filed within 30 days. Stolen EBT Cash is not replaced. If you are a victim of fraud:

Freeze your card and change your PIN immediately.
Report the theft to DHS and your local police.
Submit a stolen-benefit claim form within 30 days. You can find more information on the DHS security page.

Other Common Issues with EBT Cards and How to Resolve Them

Beyond security threats, you might run into other issues with your QUEST card. Here are three common problems and the steps you can take to resolve them quickly and efficiently.

Card Declined at Checkout

A declined transaction can happen for several reasons. Your card might not have been activated, or the PIN was entered incorrectly. After three wrong PIN attempts, your card is locked until midnight. It is also possible the card is inactive or your FoodShare balance is too low to cover the purchase.

First, check your balance. You can see your real-time EBT balance by calling QUEST Card Service at 877-415-5164 or by using the ebtEDGE website. You can also download the Benny app to view your balance.
If your card is new, call the number on the sticker to activate it and set a PIN.
If your PIN is locked, you must wait until after midnight to try again or follow the steps below to reset it.
If the card is still declined, call QUEST Card Service to check your card's status or request a replacement.

Forgotten, Blocked, or Compromised PIN

You need your PIN for every transaction. If you enter the wrong PIN three times, your card will be locked for the rest of the day as a security measure.

Call QUEST Card Service at 877-415-5164. When the automated system starts, press 2 to speak with an agent and ask them to “remove” your current PIN.
After the agent confirms the PIN is removed, you can hang up and call the same number again to choose a new PIN using the automated prompts.
When choosing a new PIN, use a memorable four-digit number that is not related to your personal information, like a birthday or address. Avoid writing it on the card itself.

Damaged, Lost, or Never-Received Card

EBT cards can get damaged over time, with the magnetic stripe or chip failing. It is also possible for a new or replacement card to get lost in the mail. In an emergency, you may be able to get a temporary QUEST card.

Report a damaged, lost, or never-received card immediately by calling QUEST Card Service to have a free replacement mailed to you (the first one each year is free).
If you need benefits before the new card arrives, you can request a temporary card at your local agency. You will need to fill out the Temporary QUEST Card Request form. This card is valid for up to 30 days. More details are on the DHS EBT page.
When your new permanent card arrives, you must call to activate it. Your existing PIN will carry over.
