How to Check Your EBT Balance in Tennessee

You can check your Tennessee EBT funds in several ways. These include logging into the online ConnectEBT portal, using a mobile app, calling the toll-free customer service number, looking at your last store receipt, or using an ATM for your EBT Cash funds. Each method gives you quick access to your current benefit information.

1. Check Online Through the ConnectEBT Portal

Accessing your account through the official ConnectEBT website provides a real-time view of your benefits.

Go to the ConnectEBT website and choose the Tennessee card option.
Enter your User ID and password. If you are a first-time user, click “CREATE NEW ACCOUNT” and provide the primary cardholder’s Social Security number, date of birth, and 16-digit EBT card number. You will then choose a User ID and password.
Once logged in, the “Account Summary” screen will show your current SNAP and Families First balances.
You can also click “Transaction History” to review recent purchases or “Change PIN” to update your PIN.
Log out of your account when you are finished.

2. Use the Benny Mobile App

Using the free Benny app is another way to see your live SNAP and Families First balances.

Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Create an account with your email or phone number and a password.
Link your card by entering your 16-digit card number, ZIP code, and PIN.
Your current balances will appear on the home screen.

The app also offers cash-back rewards on EBT purchases at many stores, including Walmart, Costco, Walgreens, and Trader Joe’s.

3. Call the 24-Hour Customer Service Line

Checking your funds over the phone is possible by calling Tennessee’s toll-free EBT Customer Service line at 1-888-997-9444.

Call 1-888-997-9444. Hearing-impaired users can use the TTY line at 711.
Enter your 16-digit EBT card number and 4-digit PIN when prompted.
Press “1” to hear your SNAP food balance or “2” for your Families First cash balance. You can also stay on the line to speak with an agent.
Support is available in English, Spanish, Arabic, and Somali. You can also say “interpreter” to access interpreter services for other languages.

4. Review Your Purchase Receipt

Looking at your most recent store receipt is a simple way to see your remaining funds.

After you complete a purchase with your EBT card, take the printed receipt.
Look near the bottom for “SNAP BAL” and “CASH BAL” to see the exact amount remaining.
You can save the receipt or take a photo of it for future reference.

5. Make an ATM Balance Inquiry

Using an ATM allows you to check your Families First (TANF) EBT Cash balance, though it will not show your SNAP funds.

Find a surcharge-free machine that displays the QUEST or MoneyPass logo.
Insert your EBT card, enter your PIN, and choose the “Balance Inquiry” option.
Select “Checking” to view your current Families First cash balance on the screen.
If you cannot find a participating ATM, you can ask a local bank if they waive surcharges for Tennessee EBT cards or call Customer Service to find free machines in your area.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

If you suspect theft, take these actions immediately:

Freeze your card in the ebtEDGE app, then call 1-888-997-9444 to cancel it.
File a police report.
Phone the TDHS Office of Inspector General at 1-800-241-2629.

A federal reimbursement program for stolen SNAP benefits has closed. Thefts discovered after December 20, 2024, are no longer eligible for repayment, as Congress did not renew the program’s authority.

Card Declined at Checkout

A “Transaction Not Approved” message can pop up for a few reasons. The most common is having a balance lower than your purchase total. It can also happen if the clerk rings up ineligible items like soap or vitamins, or if they choose the wrong payment type, such as “Credit” instead of “EBT-Food.”

Your account might also be temporarily blocked if you enter an incorrect PIN too many times.

Check your balance before shopping. You can use the Benny mobile app, the ebtEDGE portal, the toll-free number at 1-888-997-9444, or your last store receipt.
Ask the cashier to split the transaction, paying for eligible food with EBT and other items separately.
If your account is blocked, call EBT Customer Service to clear it and reset your PIN.

Forgotten or Locked PIN

For security, the system will lock your card until midnight after four incorrect PIN attempts in a row. If you simply forget your PIN, the card becomes unusable until you reset it.

Call EBT Customer Service at 1-888-997-9444 and choose the option to change your PIN. You will need to provide your card and date of birth details to create a new four-digit code.
You can also sign in to your ebtEDGE account or use the mobile app to change your PIN.

Damaged or Worn-Out Card
