Navigating Texas's Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) system can be complex. To assist, here's an overview:

Understanding the Lone Star Card

The Lone Star Card functions similarly to a debit or credit card, loaded with food stamps and/or cash benefits. It's accepted at authorized stores. Upon approval for benefits, you'll receive this card. For assistance, contact Texas's EBT customer service at 1-800-777-7328.

Applying for Food Stamps

The most straightforward method to apply for food stamps is online through the Your Texas Benefits portal. Alternatively, you can apply in person by reaching out to your local Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) office or calling the Texas SNAP hotline at 1-877-541-7905.

Renewing Your Food Stamps

It's crucial to renew your food stamps before your certification period ends, which typically ranges from 6 to 12 months for most Texas households. Confirm your specific certification period with your caseworker.

EBT Deposit Schedule

Benefits are distributed over the first 15 days of every month, based on the last digit of your Eligibility Determination Group (EDG) number. For example, if your EDG number ends in 0, benefits are available on the 1st of the month.

Reporting Changes

To report changes such as income adjustments, household size, or address updates, contact your local HHSC office or call the Texas SNAP hotline at 1-877-541-7905.

Replacing a Lost or Stolen EBT Card

If your EBT card is lost or stolen, immediately call the Texas EBT customer service at 1-800-777-7328 to report it and request a replacement.

Additional Benefits

Beyond SNAP, Texas offers programs like WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) and TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families). For more information on these programs and to determine eligibility, visit the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
