1. Online Through The ConnectEBT Portal
Checking your account through the official state portal gives you real-time information on your SNAP and EBT Cash funds, deposits, and recent transactions.
Go to the ConnectEBT website and choose “Pennsylvania EBT.”
Log in with the User ID and Password you created for your ACCESS card. Your account summary will show your balances.
If you are a new user, create a User ID by entering your ACCESS card number, ZIP code, and the last four digits of your SSN.
2. Using The Benny Mobile App
Using the Benny app is a quick way to see your current funds directly on your phone.
Download the app and create an account with your phone number or email.
Tap “Add Card,” choose “Pennsylvania,” and enter your ACCESS card number and PIN to link your account.
Your current SNAP and EBT Cash funds will appear on the home screen.

3. Calling The EBT Recipient Hotline
Calling the automated hotline at 1-888-EBT-PENN (1-888-328-7366) provides a direct way to hear your account information.
Dial the number and choose your preferred language. Additional options are available on the DHS language-services page.
Enter your 16-digit ACCESS card number, followed by the # key.
Enter your 4-digit PIN when prompted to hear your separate SNAP and EBT Cash balances.
4. At A Surcharge-Free ATM
Visiting a participating ATM allows you to perform a balance inquiry for your EBT Cash funds without a fee.
This method only displays your EBT Cash funds. To see your SNAP funds, you can check your last grocery receipt or use the Benny app.
Locate a machine near you using the Allpoint ATM locator.
Insert your ACCESS card, enter your PIN, and choose the “Balance Inquiry” option.
Confirm the screen shows a $0.00 surcharge before proceeding to view your EBT Cash funds.
5. On A Point-Of-Sale Receipt
Reviewing your receipt after making a purchase is a simple way to track your remaining funds.
After paying with your ACCESS card, keep the printed receipt.
Look below the transaction details for your separate “EBT SNAP Balance” and “EBT Cash Balance.”
You can also ask a cashier for a “balance-only” transaction without making a purchase.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

How EBT Benefits Are Stolen
Thieves steal benefits through phishing and skimming. Phishing scams use fake texts, calls, or websites to trick you into revealing your card number and PIN. Skimming involves hidden devices on card readers at stores or ATMs that illegally copy your card’s data and record your PIN, often with miniature cameras.
What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen
If you spot unauthorized charges, report the theft within 30 days by calling the EBT hotline or your County Assistance Office. They will cancel the card and mail a replacement. SNAP benefits stolen on or after October 1, 2022, can be reimbursed up to twice per fiscal year once you sign an affidavit. EBT Cash benefits are not eligible for replacement.
Other Common Issues with EBT Cards and How to Resolve Them
Even with security measures in place, you might still face issues with your EBT card. Here are some of the most common problems and the steps to resolve them quickly.
Transactions Are Declined at the Store
A declined transaction can be frustrating, but it often has a simple explanation. The most common reason is having an insufficient balance for the purchase, or your monthly benefits may not have posted yet. It could also be a simple cashier error, like ringing up the sale as a credit or debit transaction instead of EBT. A worn or damaged card with a scratched magnetic stripe can also cause read errors at the terminal.
First, confirm your balance. You can call the EBT hotline, use the myCOMPASS PA app, or download the Benny mobile app.
Ask the cashier to cancel the transaction and run it again, making sure to specify whether you are using SNAP or EBT Cash benefits.
If your card is visibly worn or damaged, you will need to order a replacement.
Forgotten or Locked PIN
Forgetting your PIN is easy to do, especially since it is recommended to change it monthly to prevent theft. If you enter the wrong PIN four times in a row, your card will automatically lock for 24 hours as a security measure.
You can reset your PIN at any time by calling the EBT hotline at 1-888-EBT-PENN and following the prompts.
If your card is locked, you must wait 24 hours before you can try again with a new PIN.
When choosing a new PIN, avoid simple sequences like 1234, as these are not permitted.
Card Is Lost, Damaged, or Demagnetized
Physical damage is a frequent problem. Cards can become unreadable if they are bent, folded, or kept too close to a magnet, like the one on a cell phone case. Leaving the card in a hot car can also cause it to demagnetize.
Report a lost, stolen, or damaged card immediately by calling 1-888-EBT-PENN. This will deactivate your old card, and a new one will be mailed to you.
You can track the status of your replacement card by calling the same number and pressing “3” for card services.
A replacement card may have a fee of up to $2.50, which is deducted from your benefit account.
