3. Call The Customer Service Line

Calling the automated, toll-free number is another way to get your balance information 24/7.

Dial 1-866-386-3071 and select your preferred language when prompted. Support is available in English, Spanish, Somali, and Arabic, with more options on the Language Access page.
Enter your 16-digit card number.
Enter your 4-digit PIN to hear your SNAP balance, EBT Cash balance, and last deposit amount.
You can stay on the line to speak with a representative for help with a replacement card or PIN reset.

4. Check Your Last Store Receipt

Looking at your most recent grocery receipt is a quick offline method for checking your balance. After making a purchase with your Ohio Direction Card, check the bottom of your receipt, which will show your remaining SNAP and EBT Cash balances.

5. Use An ATM (EBT Cash Only)

Using an ATM that accepts EBT cards allows you to check your EBT Cash balance. Any ATM with the QUEST® logo will work, and many Allpoint and MoneyPass machines are surcharge-free.

Insert your EBT card and enter your PIN.
Select “Balance Inquiry” to have the machine print or display your EBT Cash balance.
Cancel the transaction if you only need the balance and do not wish to make a withdrawal.
If a fee screen appears, cancel the transaction and find a different ATM to avoid a surcharge.

Since ATMs only show your EBT Cash funds, you can check your SNAP balance by logging into the ConnectEBT portal or by using the Benny app.

Thieves use several methods to steal funds. Card skimmers are devices placed over real card readers to copy your information. Phishing scams use fake texts or emails to lure you to fraudulent websites to enter your card number and PIN. Others may call posing as agency staff to demand your details.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

If your SNAP benefits are stolen, they may be replaceable. Ohio replaces SNAP funds stolen on or after October 1, 2022, for up to two claims per fiscal year. You must contact your county JFS office or submit form JFS 07011 within 30 days of the discovery and choose a new PIN. This reimbursement program does not cover stolen Ohio Works First (TANF) EBT Cash benefits.

Card Won't Swipe or Tap

A worn magnetic strip, a cracked chip, or even a bent card can prevent it from working at checkout counters or ATMs. This damage often results from normal wear and tear or exposure to heat and strong magnets.

Call the 24-hour Ohio Direction Card customer service line at 1-866-386-3071 to report the damage. A representative can order a free replacement, which typically arrives in 7-10 business days.
While you wait for the new card, ask the agent to activate the manual entry option, allowing you to type in your card number at participating stores.
To extend the life of your new card, keep it in a protective sleeve away from direct sunlight and magnets.

Forgotten or Locked PIN

Forgetting your Personal Identification Number (PIN) is a frequent problem. For security, your card will automatically lock if the wrong PIN is entered four times in a single day.

Call 1-866-386-3071 and choose the PIN change option. You will need to verify your identity before choosing a new four-digit code.
You can also change your PIN online by logging into the ConnectEBT portal and following the prompts.
Choose a number that is easy for you to remember but hard for others to guess. Avoid writing it on the card, as this violates program rules.

Benefits Not Appearing on Schedule

Ohio distributes SNAP funds between the 2nd and 20th of each month, with the exact date determined by the last digit of your case number. If your benefits seem late, it could be due to a missed renewal or a pending verification document.

First, confirm your scheduled payment date by checking it against the last digit of your case number.
If the date has passed, contact the statewide customer service line at 1-844-640-6446 or your county JFS office for case information.
