4. Review Your Last Store Receipt

Looking at your most recent grocery receipt is a simple way to track your funds.

After you make a purchase with your EBT card, your remaining SNAP and EBT Cash amounts are printed separately near the bottom of the receipt.

5. Make an ATM Inquiry

Visiting an ATM allows you to check your EBT Cash funds, though some machines may charge a fee.

Insert your New Hampshire EBT card at an ATM that shows the Quest or Cirrus logo.

How Can I Keep My EBT Card Secure?

How EBT Benefits Are Stolen

Thieves use several methods to steal benefits. Criminals install wireless skimmers on card readers to copy card data and use hidden cameras to record your PIN. Phishing is also common, where fake texts or calls impersonating state agencies try to trick you into revealing your card details.

What To Do If Your Benefits Are Stolen

If your benefits are stolen, replacement may be possible. New Hampshire reimburses SNAP and EBT Cash benefits stolen between October 1, 2022, and December 20, 2024. To file a claim, you must submit a signed statement or BFA Form 473, as detailed on the official SNAP website. This federal reimbursement program has been discontinued for thefts occurring on or after December 21, 2024.

Beyond security threats, EBT cardholders may face other common problems. Understanding how to resolve issues like a lost card or a forgotten PIN can prevent disruptions in accessing your benefits.

Lost or Physically Damaged Card

Misplacing your card or having a worn-out magnetic stripe prevents you from using your SNAP or EBT Cash benefits. It is important to report this immediately to protect your account.

Call the DHHS EBT Customer Service line at 1-888-997-9777 to deactivate the card. A replacement usually arrives within 7–10 business days.
If you need a card sooner, visit a local DHHS District Office to ask for a same-day replacement. You can find office information on the official EBT page.

Forgotten or Blocked PIN

Entering an incorrect PIN three or more times will lock your card for security reasons. Many people also simply forget their four-digit PIN, which also blocks access to funds.

Call 1-888-997-9777 and choose the option to reset your PIN. You will need to verify your identity with your date of birth, Social Security Number, and card number.
You can also change your PIN online after logging into the ebtEDGE website or do it in person at a DHHS office.
Create a new PIN that is not easy to guess, such as birthdays or repeating numbers.

Card Declined at the Checkout Counter

A transaction might be declined if your account has insufficient funds or if you are trying to purchase items that are not eligible for SNAP. This can be frustrating, but it is usually easy to fix.

Check your balance before shopping. You can do this by looking at your last receipt, calling customer service, or using the free Benny app to see your real-time balance.
Make sure the store’s payment terminal shows the Quest logo, which means it accepts EBT.
If your balance is low, remove some items or pay the remaining amount with another form of payment.
Remember that SNAP benefits do not cover hot foods or household goods. You may need to run separate transactions if also using EBT Cash.
